This year, the hammer has changed!

  • Sportives of both 100km and 100 miles
  • The events will offer an exciting European style format
  • Age group & gender related gold, silver, bronze standards
  • Hill climb timetrial along the route, with separate awards standards

Entry fee £25.

with the opportunity for riders to raise more for this charity.

The Hammer is a fully supported cyclosportive:

  • Comprehensively, clearly way-marked and marshalled route.
  • Electronic timing chips
  • Two well-stocked feeding stations on the route.
  • Broom wagon, mechanical support and 1st aid.
  • Quality photos of all riders available for purchase online.
  • Individual times available immediately at the event centre.
  • Full results list with Gold, Silver and Bronze standards published on event website within 24 hours.
  • Event souvenir T-shirt for all entrants.

Our entry limit for 2012 is 400 riders.

timing the hammer

The Hammer is not a race! Riders will be using public highways and are expected to obey the highway code and ride safely. Standard times are set so that riders can challenge themselves.

Gold - sub 5 hours 20 minutes
Silver - sub 6 hours
Bronze - Anyone finishing before the cut off time at 5.

  • 410 people diagnosed every day equates to:
  • almost 17 every hour
  • 3 people every ten minutes
  • Three people die from its complications every hour
  • It kills more people each year than breast and prostrate cancer
  • 100 people a week lose a foot, toe or lower limb to diabetes
  • Diabetes care accounts for 10% of the NHS budget which is a million pounds an hour
  • In the South West there are 198,000 people who have diabetes, there are a further 100,000 have it but don’t know it and there are 1,665 children (0-15 years) with Type 1 diabetes who may require 95,000 injections during their lifetime
  • 2.8 million people are diagnosed with diabetes and by 2025 it is estimated that there will be 5 million people diagnosed with diabetes
